One of the most significant periods in the church's history occurred during the Thirty Years' War, when it suffered extensive damage. In 1675-1676, Wolf Thilo von Trotha, a local nobleman, spearheaded the first major restoration efforts, rebuilding the church's nave and addressing the war's ravages. His contributions are immortalized in the intricate main portal on the north side, adorned with his and his wife's initials and the family crests of Trotha and Hakeborn.
The church underwent another substantial transformation in 1740 under the direction of Thilo Lebrecht von Trotha, Wolf Thilo's son. This renovation expanded the church's footprint and introduced a wooden barrel vault, enhancing the interior's grandeur. The addition of a north annex, housing the sacristy and patron's gallery, further enriched the church's architectural character.
