In the 1830s, the 16th-century church required urgent repairs, leading to its reconstruction. The architect James Pigott Pritchett was commissioned for this project, which took place from 1834 to 1836. Interestingly, to minimize costs, bricks from the previous church were reused, although this decision necessitated subsequent repairs due to the deficient materials.

Architectural Marvels and Additions

In or before 1851, an octagonal vestry was added to the north side, followed by a choir vestry on the south side in 1879. From 1921 to 1923, the sanctuary was reordered, and a baldachin and the east window, designed by Ninian Comper as part of a war memorial, were installed. More recently, around 2012, the roof, ceiling, and tower underwent essential repairs, supported by a grant from English Heritage.

Additionally, every fourth Sunday, the church offers either 'Holy Ground,' an informal and contemplative service, or the 'Rainbow Eucharist,' a service that explicitly affirms and upholds the LGBTQIA+ community as part of the Inclusive Church network.
