Église Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Voyage de La Seyne-sur-Mer, located in the charming coastal town of La Seyne-sur-Mer in the Var department of France, is a striking example of historical and religious architecture. This Catholic church, whose name translates to Church of Our Lady of Good Voyage, has been a beacon of faith and a testament to the town's rich history since its construction in the late 17th century.
The story of Église Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Voyage de La Seyne-sur-Mer begins in the early 1600s when the town, then part of the larger parish of Six-Fours, built its first modest chapel in 1603. However, as the population of La Seyne-sur-Mer grew and the town gained independence from Six-Fours in 1657, it became evident that the small chapel could no longer accommodate the increasing number of worshippers.
In response to this need, the communal council decided on May 23, 1673, to construct a new, larger church on the site of the old chapel. The task of building this new edifice was entrusted to Pierre and Jean Delvaux, master masons from Aix-en-Provence. The foundation stone was laid on June 8, 1674, and the construction was completed by 1682, giving birth to the magnificent Église Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Voyage de La Seyne-sur-Mer.
By the late 19th century, the church was in need of significant repairs. Enter Marius Michel, also known as Michel Pacha, who had recently become the owner of the nearby Tamaris district. Michel Pacha generously offered to finance the restoration and enhancement of the church. The work was carried out in 1890 under the supervision of Paul Page, an architect from Toulon. The facade of the church was completely redone, featuring a central porch adorned with sculpted figures and crowned by a large rose window, giving the church its current distinctive appearance.

The interior of Église Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Voyage de La Seyne-sur-Mer is just as impressive as its exterior. The church is oriented towards the southwest and consists of three naves with four vaulted bays. It culminates in a square choir topped with an octagonal dome featuring an oval oculus. The church's dimensions are equally impressive, measuring 39 meters in length, 19 meters in width, and 17 meters in height. The main nave is 7 meters wide, while the secondary naves are 5 meters wide.
One of the highlights inside the church is the main altar, a stunning piece constructed by the renowned artistic marble workshop of Bourg-Saint-Andéol. This altar was a gift from Amable Lagane, the director of the La Seyne shipyards, to celebrate his daughter's wedding in 1892.
Visitors can also admire two large gilded wooden statues representing Saint Peter and Saint Paul in the main nave. The statue of Saint Paul is particularly noteworthy, having been crafted by André-Joseph Allar, a native of Toulon and a winner of the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1869.
The first organ of the church was installed in 1811 by Jean-François-Marie Borme and Charles-Ferdinand Gazeau, organ builders from Marseille. The current organ, a masterpiece by François Mader from Marseille, was installed between 1891 and 1892. It was inaugurated on October 9, 1892, in the presence of Bishop Mignot of Fréjus and Toulon.
The church's bells also have a rich history. The four current bells date back to 1862 and were provided by Émile Baudouin, a bell founder from Marseille. The Baudouin family would later go on to establish a company specializing in the construction of marine engines, known as Moteurs Baudouin.
